The biggest issues with this team have been the coaching and the GM. Since JR left it's been a disaster of bad moves by arrogant know it all GMs who can't accept their own failure. Hextal was a moron and a disaster. Dubas has been no better. He's done nothing to improve the team. One could say he's severally damaged it in not getting value for Jake and even letting him leave to begin with. But things could change over night. Montgomery was just released from BOS. This is a guy who knows how to win with older players. He also knows how to build a team around them with less. Sully has been given a lonnnnnnnnnng leash. But his time needs to be up, and there is no better coach out there for this team than Montgomery, who should be hired immediately to replace him. This is the first step to fixing this team. The second is to get personnel decisions out of the hands of Dubas. He's a moron. He couldn't build a team if his life depended on it. He would have wasted the careers of Matthews and Nylander if he stayed in TOR and he'll destroy the rest of this team if he's allowed to keep making decisions here. He's had two years, and he's done nothing positive for this team and the proof is on the ice and the roster you got. He needs to either be fired or told he no longer makes personnel decisions. This team is not a rebuild yet. It just hasn't had the right GM and coach capable of doing anything with it. But the window is open to turn this around for a 2 year run. This is the beginning of a solid team, with cap space to burn. The bottom 6 is the best it's been in Dubas 2 years. The top 6 still capable. The defense has cap to improve. They just need to get decent goal tending.
